What Will get that almost impossible black brake crud off my wheels
Can someone PLEASE let me know what will remove that nasty baked on break dust and road grime, you find in the corners of your wheels. It seems I can't seem to get it off of my X5 wheels. I have an 05 with stock wheels, now that winter is almost over I tried to get this stuff off my wheels and it seems impossible. I didnt want to use anything abrasive like brillo and compromise the finish of the wheels. Is there product I can use to remove this crud? Thank you.

I get the best results from the BMW wheel cleaner (gel) available from the dealer parts department.

As a last resort I use a soft eraser when it gets baked in like that. Don't blame me if you rub to hard to take off more than just the crud.

I couldn't phase this crud with the green scouring side of a sponge. It seems like it's baked on.

If you've tried all the standard stuff you buy at the auto places (sprays, etc) then you can try wheel polish or regular polishing compound. Just be gentle. |

brake cleaner solvent may work after repeated application

NEVER DULL!! Works great!! You won't believe it. Rub in then wipe off!!
no scratches, I always wear gloves. Wash the wheels first, Never Dull, wash, then wax the wheels. The wax seems to make future removal easier. Last edited by realchef; 03-22-2009 at 08:44 PM. |
