Ive done it with my 3.0i

Turn off DSC, then hit the brake and gas at about 2,500RPM then let her rip. I've done this on dry pavement with my 3.0i. I don't recommend if you don't wanna waste your tires. But the fun was well worth the $$$ for tires, that's for sure.

Is the reason the question was asked because they tried it and it didn't work?

I have to agree...Unless wet / snow / ice, it's pretty tuff to get even the 17" rubbers to break free...BUT...

There are several "armor-ers" out there that sup-up X5's with body armor panels & tweak the engines the deal with the extra weight. To teach the professionals who will drive the vehicles, I have seen MB M & G series with like an under body 'lift' kit that alters the way the tires touch the ground, allowing the vehicles to be tossed around, thereby requiring the drivers to learn how to handle the extra weight & associated awkward handling.

I do believe Joan London actually took a go at one of these tracks, but her's was using the US's FBI course & a few Impalas / Crown-Vics / Caprice types.

This year in CT, we had one VERY substantial (several less so) snow fall of around 12" where we are along the water on the south coast. With the stock 18" Michie's on my 4.4, I was able to easily get the rear end to kick out and power slide through several turns/corners, but once DSC kicks in, everything straightens out.

With an AWD Nissan Skyline, you can do some tricks, but that power isn't throwing 5000lbs of Bovarian beauty around. I'm thinking wet conditions, old cheap rubber, and a HEAVY foot with DSC off, and MAYBE you'd get her loose.

But...Yea, I'd say continuously TRYING to do this is a bit ruff on the tranny / diff's.

You wanna spin & plan, get an E36 Lightweight M3 GT (hard to find!) and PLAY!

Personally, I've been too afraid of screwing up the drive train (really BIG $$$$) - I have not chirpped the tires on a straightaway, but the rear really wants to get loose if I stomp on it when the wheel is turned (ie, pulling out from a perdendicular road) - with the Dinan S2 setup, there is no typical 'hesitation' when accelerating from a stop - the weight of the X5 also inhibits breaking traction

A stock 3.0 with good tires will have quite a bit of trouble doing "360's" on dry pavement. Chirping on a 90 degree turn is possible but this is pretty trivial drifting if you ask me.

Snow...thats another story. The X5 with DSC off is a BLAST in the snow. I wish I knew how to easily post videos here! We wait for the snow....then go driving and the X5 settles right in.

It's amazing how the quintessential traits of our beloved Bimmers shine through even in the worst driving conditions. Can't wait for the next snow day.
