driver door unlocks but wont open

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if anybody could shed any light on a problem on my 2001 x5 3.0i. My drivers door unlocks but wont open with either the handle inside or out. My wife discovered the fault this morning, first she said the door would not close and when she eventually got it to close she then found she couldn't open it.

Any input would be much appreciated, even the number of a dodgey bloke with a can of petrol and a match! More history on the car and my love hate relationship to come, basically in the first year its has not lasted a month without a fault of some description.

Cheers

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Does the outside handle feel normal, or kinda like it's broken inside?

Jim, how low was the temperature?
The X5 doors notoriously freeze and the vehicle has to warm up before they are functional again.
In my case i found that using silicone based lubricants on the locks helped reduce the frequency of such incidents.

Door opening problem under repair

Hi Guys,

Thank too you all for the quick input, turns out it was a small problem of the car being locked via the remote while the drivers door was ever so slighty open and the next day when my wife unlocked it, it got itself into a right tizzy, so when Sherry slammed the door closed, even thought you could unlock the door it seems that both internal and exterior handles would not open it. I wrestled for about 3 hours to get into the door inner with the door shut and push up the (I assume) the dead lock mechanism and hey presto the door opened.

I am going to keep the door panel off for a few days just incase.

Other faults on the go:-

Radio mutes itself.
ABS woes Inc total loss of comms to all four ABS sensor 2 are new one repair! Comes and goes mainly comes when its raining.
Telephone doesn't work, the screen has died on it.
Pixels on dash u/s.
Battery only at 11 volts (will this cause alot of my electronic problems?)

Faults been and thankfully gone! (for now)

Active suspension failure (mine was actually a failure suspension bag split) local BMW garages useless! Went to the garage 7 times at a cost of £4500 on warranty thankfully.
ABS failure but DSC and down hill descent failed locking all brakes on! Again 4 or 5 trips to garage for them not to fix it at a cost to me £450!
Speedo failure. ABS again.
Rear lights fitting melted! Now replaced with aftermarket clear ones which are better quality than BMW.

just so we can be sure we are not alone in the love hate relationship with our cars.

Cheers
Jim
