I have been looking for a while but have not been able to locate a decent Indy Shop.......

Anyone out there?????

I am willing to drive 100 miles if I had too. I am located in the New York City Area.

I recommend Bay Diagnostic in Brooklyn - 718.615.0705...i've been using them as a dealer alternative. Ask for Al, he's the head tech, he drives a Dinan-modded 4.4i.

My mechanic of 17 years. Great Eastern Auto. Its a shop run by an asian guy named Hung.

The address is 628 e 28th street, Brooklyn NY between Flatbush and Foster Avs. They guy is awesome! Just an example: One of my axle boots had ripped and was spewing grease all over the inside of my rims. I was looking at the posts here talking about $600 axle replacements. He charged me $140 installed for an entire new axle. And he shows you the old parts.

If something doesnt really need to be replaced, he will advise you NOT to even though he's losing money.

And VERY convenient. You can park your car on the block on a Sunday night, leave the keys in the drop box, call him Monday morning and tell him what the problem is, and 90% of the time the car will be fixed and you can pick it up by 5pm Monday. I do this all the time. And the 2/5 train is only 2 blocks away.

The phone # is 718-434-8995. Ask for Hung. Tell him you have an X5 and Lance sent you.

In fact Im going to make a separate post because they do great work at excellent prices. You will not be disappointed.

Call again later but before 5:15pm. The mechanics answer the phone so if it's busy they sometimes dont pick up. Ask for Hung and tell him Lance with the X5 referred you. What's wrong with your X anyway?

i recommend my mechanic for the past 20 years to everyone. i went to bmw service a few weeks ago and recived a call from my service adivsor saying my car has both tie rods bent and it is not covered by warranty, along with a balance and wheel alignment they wanted $4,469.00. i went the my mechanic and they replaced both tie rods, mounted 4 new tires on my x5, ballanced them, and did a wheel alignment. all that cost me $400.00. and i had my car back in a few hours. BMW wanted $4,469.00 and needed the car for over a week. my uncle brought his civic to honda because he herd a noise coming from the front passengers side. they told him $1,800.00 and thats not including the real problem(the noise). my unlce payed $1,200.00 and got new control arms, new stabilizer links, new shocks, springs, a wheel alignment, and an inspection. my other uncle is going in tommorow for front brakes and sensors on his 2008 Audi Q7, $300.00. they also rebuilt a whole diesel engine for my father that my younger brother destroyed. he ripped the oil pan and drove the car with no oil in it. never had a problem with that car till this day. Ask for Tony or Ernesto. tell them GIANVITO sent you.

I have been looking for a good indy for a couple of days now then saw this thread. Al of Bay Diagnostic seems like a very knowledgeable guy.

I bought oem 87s last week and need to have them balanced and aligned, called at least 5 indy shops here in NJ and all of them told me to just bring it to the dealer. Delear qouted $120 to balance 4 tires + $199 for the alignment. Yikes!

Im bringing my X on saturday to Bay Diagnostic and will let you know about the results. Quote is around $150 (balance+alignment oem specs)

Wish me luck.

When you have them balanced make sure they are balanced on a Force-Feedback Hunter machine....
