Aux fan and Fuse??

I had no aux fan, found the fuse to be bad, fuse #61. Replaced fuse and it started to smoke. Now, I have no Aux fan. Was this a BMW recall? The Aux fan is $400. Is this a common problem for a 2001 x5 4.4 w/ 80k?
Any diy on this? The x5 did over heat, another problem. Thanks

My AUX fan was DOA when I got my 2002 X5 3.0i. It was replaced under CPO warranty. Not sure what they charge for it.

I have read a lot of other posts that this is a common problem.
