Transmission problem

Guys,
seems its my turn to suffer the transmission failure issue. i have E53 4.4 year 2000 with only 135,000 KM. and all of a sudden, the transmission wont work and u can feel the slippery. then the screen showed "transmission program failure". i drive it to the BMW dealer, he checked and said the problem with tranmission it self. My question, is it normal that such failure happens without previous warnings. also anyone from your experience, shall i go for complete overhaule for the tranmission which can be done at the ZF service center in my area. is it reliable. .. .thanks for any feedback. .

i had the exact same problem bmw wanted £4500 to change to trasmission got it overhauled for less than half of that. The problem is the torque convertor breaks up inside the gearbox and this feels like a slipping clutch it will get worse through time and the vechicle will be non driveable

tranmission failure

well....
the Transmission is originally made by ZF company... so if you take it directly to them, they will fix it and you will save some money. . . do you think the problem is only with the torque... cose in my case.. it didnt give me any alarm previous to that.. it just happen one time and the transmission die...
