Flat battery - no central locking
Last night, i had the inconvenience of calling out the RAC following a flat battery as a result of leaving my lights on accidentally. Following a jump start, i drove home, only to find that i could not then operate the central locking, and had to use the key to close the car. ( therefore presumably the car wasnt alarmed or the immobiliser enabled) Additionally, i noticed that the radio/cd would not work either. When i contacted my local garage this morning, they suggested that i had probably blown some fuses, and that because the car was a 04, it wasn't a case of resetting anything. Unsatisfied with that answer, i 'phoned another main dealer, only to be told that they would have to reset it somehow, and i should book it in. Any suggestions welcome. Mark |

Hi,
Does your central console lock/unlock work? or it's only the key's remote that doesn't operate? |

As far as your central locking is concerned, I think your key might need to be re-initialized to the car. Please read the note in Step 8 first.
Procedure: Also here: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...ob-bmw-x5.html or here: http://www.programyourkeys.com/BMW_X...ogramming.html 1. Charge the key for about 1 hour in the ignition. 2. Enter the vehicle and close the doors 3. Briefly turn the ignition on (key to position 2) and off (5 times within 5 seconds). Don't actually start the car. 4. Remove the key; press and hold the 'unlock' button. While holding the 'unlock' button, rapidly press the 'lock' button 3 times within a period of 10 seconds. 5. Release the 'unlock' button. 6. The central locking system activates and releases all locks in rapid succession to indicate that the initialization has been successful. 7. To initialize additional remote control keys (make sure that no more then 30 second elapse between each initialization procedure) repeat steps 4 and 5 ONLY. Do not repeat step 3. 8. NOTE: You MUST initialize all the keys (at least that is what I found, otherwise by initializing one you de-initialize the others). Radio/CD probably is a blown fuse issue. A voltage surge during jumping might have done it. Next time you should follow BMW's procedure for jumping to avoid the surge. See post # 6 http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum...-terminal.html Invest in a battery charger to get your battery back into shape. http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum...w-one-fyi.html What Bedford are you located in?
