Added an X-Pipe on Monday. The shop I went to fabricated one, custom, and it is SIIIIIICK!!!! I'll post some pictures tomorrow, and I'll try and get a video this weekend.

I've been driving around with a permanent smile, like when i first got my license, and i can't help but to open my door and rev my engine just before i shut her down. (i look foolish and pompous, but i can care less)

What a great sound!

x-pipe to remus mufflers on the 4.4, ya, it is a MUST!

Looking forward to the video. I did the X pipe mod today. Not sure if the 4.6 mufflers are much different than the 4.4 but my exhaust is still really quiet. So I am on the hunt for just the right mufflers. Leaning towards magnaflow.

OK, just shot some video. Its dark but you can hear the exhaust and thats the point here. Seems you have to rev it pretty good to get any noise. Nothing until at least 3,500 rpm.

YouTube - BMW 2002 4.6 x pipe resonator delete

Are stock 4.6 mufflers really restrictive? My guess is that they are.

Also I weighed the resonator and as I recall it was like 18lbs.

I am curious myself how replacing the rear half of the exhaust with 2.5" pipe and magnaflows or flowmasters would sound. I have the same truck and definitely want a loud, low, deep and smooth rumble for my beastly beauty.

Weasel can I tell you something? I grew up in a house with a long winding exit for the Belt Parkway right behind my house. I didnt know much about the mechanicals of cars then but every time I heard a Mustang 5.0 GT (like 89-93) I knew excatly what car it was beyond a shadow of a doubt. I'd race to the window to confirm what I already knew and was right every time.

I know it'd be difficult to replicate that sound with my 3.0, but I wouldnt mind something close to that sound. Maybe not that loud though that I have teenagers running to their windows, lol.

Wow, still sounds nice. Seems the deletion of resonator addition of x-pipe adds that signature rattle, but a nice deep tuned rattle. It is a great sound.

I have Remus mufflers, on my 4.4, and though they alone sounded much better than the stock 4.4 mufflers, adding the x-pipe made a slight difference. I can now hear that "tuned deep rattle" and it is a bit more throaty with a longer lasting drone. Not sure what Magnaflow mufflers would do, but I can vouge for the Remus, I'll get a vid after work today.

I wish I did a before/after comparison (remus to resonator; remus to x-pipe)

I know that sound all to well... we sold our 93 stang to a friend of mine but still have the 03 mach 1.

Unfortunately there is no way to get that signature rumble of a V8 with a i6. One of our fellow board members did add an x-pipe and magnaflows on a 3.0i X5, here's the youtube video of it.
