X5 2000 4.4i HELP!!!

TRANS FAIL SAFE comes up - flashes - engine seems to slow down but doesn't sound different, gears change OK. Transmission fluid and filter changed but TRANS FAIL SAFE still comes up. Trans fluid was dirty but
no residue. What else can I try?

What faults were stored? If you never had the faults analyzed then you really need to. There are numerous things that can cause trans failsafe and that is the only way to know.

Are you seriously in St. Lucia? If so, the only way to really fix the problem is to fly weasel down there to have a look at it.
