BATTERY PERFORMANCE

4.4 2000 - TRANS FAILSAFE on so code said change battery.
I couldn't get 90Amp (one's being shipped) but I bought a new 70Amp.
Recommended is 90Amp 12V 720 crank but this one has
70Amp 12V 755 crank
The red battery light used to flicker, but now with the change of
battery it doesn't - apart from at night when I use my headlamo.
I was told that was to be expected as the headlamps draw 100W and
the new battery is 70Amp - can anyone confirm this?
Today, in the daylight, the battery light didn't
flicker, but while overtaking the Trans fail safe light flickered but the
car kept on changing gears. I've parked the vehicle. Any ideas what
I can look for now? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks.

UPDATE: My mechanic just told me code 096 Battery and supply came up - and that when he revs to 4000RPM voltage drops down to 15V - so seems it's the alternator. But I just changed it Jan 2009!!!

take that battery out, put the correct size in, and check your alternator.

BATTERY

I replaced the alternator two months ago. There are no correct batteries in the island - I've ordered one and it will get here in three weeks.

Do you think this non-original 70Amp battery would cause the Transfail safe light to go on?
Will it cause any damage if I continued to drive?

The 70Ah or 90Ah is only an indication of their storage capacity (how long you can run without recharging). Once the car is started and running, the alternator is your supply source. So the battery shouldn't even come into play unless it's faulty and interferes with the system. Look at the alternator again...is the drive belt installed properly (not slipping)? The replacement alternator may not be up to specs or is marginal.

BTW...I thought the OEM battery is rated at 140Ah (for the 3.0i)?
