1) Coolant Flush 2) Differentail Fluid flush 3) Fuel Injector Cleaning DIY I need it for my 2nd inspection check list. I'm gonna consolidate all these into one PDF. I currently have: 1) Oil and Filter Change - Engine and Tranny 2) Brake Fuid Change 3) Spark Plug Change 4) Power Steering Fluid Change 5) Micro/Air Filter Change 6) Fuel Filter Change So right now just looking for the above 3... I've done a search and even googled but can't find anything on the X5 I did find some DIY on Differential for 3 series car, but not sure if its gonna be the same for the X5

To get to the front diff, you need to pull the skid plate. Rear diff is easy to get to. Drive the car for a bit to warm everything up. Pull the FILL plug first with the correct hex bit...the size for those is on this site, but I forget what they are. Then pull the drain. Put it back in, but do not be too forceful. Those are steel plugs in an aluminum case.
I believe the fill for the diffs is 75w90. I like Royal Purple. If you are doing that, might as well do the transfer case also.

Speaking of transfer case fluid changing, does anyone know of a DIY writeup on this? I haven't done one before, but I'm betting it's no more difficult than the differential, which I have done. thanks, MG |

On my 2006 3.0, the transfer case plug on the rear of the unit was difficult to get to with just a socket and ratchet. I had to get a 16mm combo wrench to get the plug off. This is because there a center support beam (for lack of a better term) that runs right behind the transfer case.
