2001 X5 Camshaft & Oxygen Sensor
It was diagnosed as needing a new Exhaust B (right) Camshaft Position Sensor and (front bank 1) Oxygen sensor. I do not trust this because I replaced that Exhaust B (right) Camshaft Position Sensor on 2/16/07 and the (left) camshaft sensor on 11/22/06. Also I have been smelling oil burning when I pull into the garage occasionally, but since it was right after having gotten my oil changed I did not think much of it. I saw a response that talked about leaking oil gaskets, and though this may be the source that is causing the sensor to act out. Does anyone have any recommendations for trouble shooting this or ways to validating the diagnoses? Thanks |

CPS's can go bad at anytime being it's an electronic part no matter the age. You've gotten 2- 2.5 yrs out of them, I think you've done pretty good.
Have the one replaced and eliminate that as a culprit. Being that you have an 8 yr old car, fairly high miles and if the O2 sensors are original, they are probably long over due for a change. I'd go ahead and replace those items and see if still acts up. Let us know the results and we can go from there. The oil burn smell is probably a leaky valve cover gasket. If it's never been done it's also long over due. I just did one on my 2002 325i and it has 90K. |
