Radio/Amp rebuild/exchange

Is there a good source to have your radio and amp rebuilt or exchanged?

This is a 2001 X5 with Nav:

My wife spilled water in the back of her X5, quite a bit, about an inch above the bottom of the amp and the radio. The radio was on at the time and she said the speakers buzzed and that was the first indication she had a problem.

I have taken the back end apart, dried everything, recharged the battery, placed fans in the back for a day, used an air hose to dry under things and everytihng appears to be bone dry.

I opened up the radio and it appears dry with no burn marks.

I have checked the glove box fuses, the fuse on the passenger side and the fuse on the radio. I have not found one on the Amp, if there is one where is it?

I can tune the radio on the display, switch from AM to FM, etc. but no sound.

ALSO the door locks don't seem to work from the console...any ideas there?

Any ideas? Do you think the radio and amp are toast?

Any suggestions would be appreaciated! Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know the cost of a new Amp and Radio? Are there any rebuilders of these units?

You really need to start calling some junkyards. Buying parts at a dealer in this case is too cost prohibitive.

Alpine makes a lot of the electronics but has no OEM exchange center to help you. That means you are out of luck as far as Alpine goes.

As you know, there is the non-DSP amp and the DSP amp so be sure to give very specific information to the junkyard as far as part numbers go.

Good luck.

Chris
