tire matching

Im going to buy some 87 this coming weekend...the rear tires are worn out and the fronts are 75%, the tires are contis but I'm wondering if and why do I have to get the same rear tires are fronts? IM not sure I want to buy those tires they're pretty expensive for tires.

I don't think it's a big deal to get matching tires for a normal car/truck. If you were talking about a high power sports car where you try to extract every ounce of performance and take the car to it's handling limits then it's a different story. I'm not gonna ever lose traction or push into a corner too hard, the car is not really meant for that. Even in spirited driving I bet you will not be able to tell the difference. I'm not telling you to get the cheapest tires out there but you can save some money on getting a different brand.

My personal opinion.....

You definitely want to have the same tires all the way around... just my opinion.....

U should always put the same brand/model tires on all 4 wheels.... no matter if its a sports or suv, this effects your handling in dry/wet conditions.... think of you try to run/jog with 2 different types of sneakers !!! its a no brainer ...

There is no real data to support that same tire theory.. Especially if you run staggered.. THe same axle is a different story. BUt if you run staggered, you can't rotate them anyway so whats the big deal as long as you have a good tire of the same basice design like all season or summer.

for 4 wheel drive systems you need to ensure that the rolling diameter of tyres is within plus or minus a half inch .

it was said on this forum the other day that tire rack give specifications for tires as revolutions per mile , for example most x5 tires rotate around ( no pun intended ) 725 revs per mile .

if you deviate from spec you will destroy the transfer case output shaft to the front wheels .
