Question I need some Subs

I need some subs in my X to go with my BSW stage 1 speakers I've had for forever.. there just isn't enough bass. I've done alot of researching on the forum and at local shops. Results:

BSW Stealth Sub (sub + amp .. for a decent price) about $699

JL Stealthbox (sub + amp.. cost a bit more) about $800+ depending on amp

a shop recommended Infinity Basslink installed for $450 .. big, bulky, and doesn't look like it performs well

What should I go with? I just want some clean bass .. for under $1000, without losing storage space.

Either the BSW or JL Audio would be a good choice. The Infinity Basslink sounds muddy, IMHO. I have the JL Audio 10W3 in their sealed ProWedge enclosure and love the solid punch that it provides. You don't really need a powerful AMP for either the BSW or JL Stealthbox...so even under $800 is easily achievable.

No...I did my sub long before they offered the stealthbox. The stealthbox comes with a 10W1, which requires less power to drive. Here's my setup that I posted on another thread => http://www.xoutpost.com/448217-post5.html

I have not heard anything good about the basslink, so I would steer clear of that.

I like the JL stealth box, just bought one used on ebay for $350.

I will be running an Alpine PDX-5. Has a small footprint and should fit in the left storage area.

Alpine PDX-5 5-channel car amplifier 75 watts RMS x 4 + 300 watts RMS x 1 at Crutchfield.com

I am also upgrading the speakers to Boston Pro 60 series.

The BSW has an 8" right?

The JL I know has a 10", and they have done extensive research in developing these boxes for performance with limited size.

So I vote for the JL, an 8" is to mid punchy for me, prefer a 12" but settling for a 10". Like you I don't want to loose any cargo space.

Jl and Alpine PDX amps are the shizzle. I know here is my RX-7 custom JL sub with a 1,000 watt PDX amp.

thanks dkl.. i wouldn't mind a setup like yours since the box can be removed so easily. is it difficult to wire? i hate wiring..

redline, you are right about BSW being an 8 inch sub. and thats one expensive amp in your link!

so i'm going to come clean here, i really don't speak car audio. so all the assistance i can get would be great.

so how do i know what kind of amp i need? $600 for an amp seems like ALOT (the one in the link)

and what did you mean by the 8 inch sub being too 'mid punchy' ? also BSW's setup came with an amp included in the price, so i guess its safe to assume its not that great?

finally, since JL seems the way to go, IF i decided to go with the stealthbox, whats are some amp options to look at to keep me within my budget of $1000 (the lower the better)...

The Alpine PDX-5 is nice, but is a bit of an overkill for the stealthbox application. The Alpine MRP-M500 would be perfect for the stealthbox and can easily be had for around $150.

It's very easy to wire things up on the X since everything you need (signals, control, and power) are already right in the trunk! You just have to be patient and careful with where you taps and how you run the wires...otherwise, you run the risk of introducing noise (most likely engine hum) into the system.

The only reason I showed that amp is it will power your door speaker and the amp. 300 watts to the sub and 75 watts x 4.

Does the BSW stage 1 upgrade include an amp? If so than disregard the pdx-5.

I would recommend the Alpine PDX-2.150. This amp bridged will make 300 watts which is perfect for the JL stealth 10". I have had pretty good luck on ebay. Here is a link to the mentioned amp.

That amp would work just fine as well for powering just the sub. I just really like the PDX amps, they don't make a lot of heat, so they can be closed up. Like in the left storage area.

Why do you prefer the PDX-2.150 over an MRP-M500. The MRP-M500 performs similar to the PDX-2.150 (in bridged mode) and cost much less. Both are class D...so performance-wise would be very close. Not trying to arm wrestle with you...but since the OP wanted something low cost, I think the MRP would be better bang for the buck.
