Tyre pressure query

Hi All,

Just moved up to 20" rims for my 4.4l X5. Running Toyo 275's on front and Toyo 315's on the back.

Bit confused about tyre pressure though.

The manual says 32psi all round regardless of tyre size. When i got them from the shop they were at 40psi. Haven't had a chance to ring them back and ask yet.

I know that incorrect pressure can damage the tyre so dont want to mess it up.

Any ideas on what the ideal pressure should be fro around town not carrying a maximum load?

32-34 all round should be well in summer and winter... if you drive a lot on slippery roads in winter, deflate to 30... you want a better fuel consumption, inflate the rear to 36 (39 if you load the car)... that's how i manage my tires...

I've always run 32 psi all around on 19s, never had 20s. Some here run slightly higher - 34 psi maybe, in the back. 40 psi sure sounds high.

I've got 22" Nittos & was running them at the "recommended" 32psi when A real "veteran" of the tire trade was checking the excessive toe-in (characteristic of ALL X5's incidently) and he went nuts at the tire pressure! He told me ALL 20" or more soft, high performance tires ONLY should never be run at less than 42psi. Rougher ride of course.... but the pressure difference in performance is astounding.

Never heard of anyone running that high a pressure in my entire life.

My 87s with 315/275 setup is running 38 psi. Can someone with a 4.6is/4,8is confirm the correct recommended tire pressures?

On the E70, it has the tire pressures on the inside of the fuel/gas cap cover (which are different to what is on the A-frame and the manual).

Does the E53 have the tire pressures on the gas cap cover?
