Biggest subwoofer ever installed in the X5 (maybe :)

I hope you bolted them down.

In a crash, subwoofers in enclosures like that are one of the first things in the car to turn into a projectile. Lots of incidents around here with death by subwoofer (unrelated picture but you get the idea)

Most of the people you are dealing with here are past and over with the head bangin' stage and could give a rats @$$ about the biggest subs you can install in your X. "THE SOUND IS FANTASTIC!"....I don't think so.

I'm mostly happy with the DSP's clarity and the 8" infinity in the BSW box... but want a bit more precise "hit" than the 8"er can do as I listen to some pretty brutal death metal most of the time and the 8" is too small to give that crisp kick drum sound.

haha - i agree with you, but i find the hint of hostility in your tone interesting. I thought this was a forum to share X5 experiences and customization.

although I wouldn't do it, I don't find OP post absurd on how he modified his X5 with subs. you can have an opinion, but don't generalize this board as being unaccepting of his decision.

It seems quite clear that many of us went through the head banging 130db systems back when we were younger. And I'll tell ya what, if I could guarantee a rattle-free systems without all the problems and headaches associated with aftermarket systems (without spending $10k+) I would do it again in our new X. Even my 2002 X5 had a kick-ass system in it and I loved it. Pics below show how I managed to get high-output, low distortion and still kept cargo abilities in my old X5.

As many of you probobly know, with all forms of stereo systems and hi-fi gear, more is always better if you are in search of sonic excellence. Within reason, it is always better to have amplifiers with tons of dynamic headroom and loudspeakers that can handle more power than you are sending them. This way, each component is working well within it's comfort zone.

So I say add two subs if you like and rock on!!!

there's no such thing as too much bass! Maybe young and dumb, but young, dumb and fun! I had 2 15" Solobarics in my old car and the thump was phenomenally deep and clean. Unfortunately, it rattled the crap out of my car (didn't help that it was a Nissan). One of my more memorable moments with that system was blasting the speakers, opening up the trunk to show someone what I had, then hearing a screw rattle in the trunk lid. Another moment happened when I was playing "Find a Way" by A Tribe Called Quest somewhat softly, a couple of guys roll up and asked what I had cuz they could hear the bass over their music. They asked me to blast the song from the beginning. If any of you know that song, you know that the opening bassline pounds. Their reaction was priceless; jaws dropped, eyes wide open, yelling "DAMN!". Memories...Anyway, if I could put 2 15s in the back of the X w/o it falling apart, I would do it again. So rock on codered and have fun!

Not a fan.....I'm all for upgrading stereo systems but I think things should be in balance. I also prefer clean and stock looking installs as oppsoed to a big box and amp just thrown in the back.
