I've got a 03' 3.0L and I'll often show around 520-530mi when I fill up and that doesn't move for the first 70-80 miles. I use 89 octane from shell/chevron/texaco. I average about 500 miles per tank.

Ya.. but how do you drive? See... I have a V8 and live in boston... lots of stop and go.. lots of having to speed up to get throug (since people, especially cabbies seem to enjoy messing with you on offramps and such.) I average mid 300's/tank.. aweful.. i know... about 14.5mpg.. what can i do about it? I use 93 octane.

yes, agree with you and X5 meister. I have a feeling that it is averaging the last 100miles or so... about the sampling rate, it's pretty much fast, it's updating the value every minute or so. i noticed this when rolling downhills: it starts increasing every minute with steps that make me think that after 100miles i get the real one that corresponds to my current drining style...

Refreshing an old thread...we were motoring down the highways
on Monday, haulingazz back from NJ to the Mtn house. Gassed
up in NJ and noticed the range "creeping up", 60 miles down the
road. First pic is flash on and hard to see, but "range" was in the
high 490s and climbing, slowly.

2nd pic, taken handheld, no flash, and bouncing down the crummy
MaryLand I-95, shows "range" of 501. That's the highest range I
saw on our trip up and back. X ran like a top through torrential
rains north of Balto, horrible stop and go, (again Balto area),
and loaded down with stuff. On the 3 1/2 tank fulls, I averaged
20.9, even with the high rpms at speed, on our manual trans and
the perpetual stop and go around Balto.

That's my range info; I liked the pics of the "ranges" preceeding this!

the Jerk post gave me a tearing laugh.
my 4.8is always says 460-480 on fill up, but even with the easiest/mixed driving I've never really gotten past 360ish.
