above the auto button? Push one and "WALA" auto mode goes off.

Actually, I'm not sure if this is the same as what Lionel is referring to, but I have never been able to stop the AC from turning on by itself at the start of the car.

ie:
1) while engine is running, switch off the AC completely, by pressing the fan speed all the way down... until the AC is shut off and the display goes off.
2) AC stays off... then switch off the car
3) when starting the car the next time, the AC will be switched on automatically, although out of the full AUTO mode and with the lowest fan speed.
4) I have to repeat step #1 to turn it off again

If the (snow flake) ac button is off and the auto button is on any of those 3 buttons above the auto button will shut off auto mode.

Remember climate control is more than just Air conditioning. The system can circulate air without AC so to speak.

Check Page 112 in the 2005 manual under Individual air distribution
