P53 headlights

Hi Guys, i need your help with something. i have bought the same pair of HID headlights for my 2003 X5 and i have factory Xenon. What sort of modification will i need to install these headlights and can i use my original balast and bulbs. thank you
regards
Ehsan

i successfully installed the skid plate with no dramas. Only important part is to drill a hole just big enough to squeeze the ram nuts provided.

As far as I know, it should be a direct swap as far as installation is concerned. I believe P53s take H7 bulbs for the low beam so you probably won't be able to use your factory HID kit. Also, you will lose the self-leveling feature. I'll double-check when I get to the office tomorrow 'cause we have some in stock.

I have the converter for the HID ballast problem. If you want it let me know. I paid about $20. You will just have to shave some plastic off the bulb.

Actually they are cheaper on ebay. This is what you need.

eBay Motors: H7 to D2S/D2R Adapters for Philips Osram Xenon HID Bulb (item 270354512667 end time May-05-09 17:01:05 PDT)

Hi Ehsan,
Can you please put up a pic of your new skid plate with suppliers details ?? Good to hear you finally got it on. Also maybe a low down pic showing fixings as no one has done that as yet.

Can't help you with P53 issue but it sounds like X5driver has you sorted. GL getting them up and running and don't forget to show us all once complete.

Bernie

not sure if it's exactly the same headlights as the "P53" that the OP has, but the self-leveling feature on mine works perfectly well.

Hi, this is a picture of the backside of the headlights that i received. Now do you guyz thing that the bulb from my oem xenon headlights would fit or do i need an adaptor like X5driver suggested. Any help would be appreciated. I can get a complete H7 HID Kit as well but would prefer to keep oem parts as much as possible. I will post pictures of the skid plate very soon, cheers

Hi, just received an email from the guy who sold me the headlights, he said that the headlights will accept d2s bulb. I also check the headlights for any clues and found that the there are two writings on the back side of the low beam, one says H7 12V 55W and the other says D2S 12V 35W. The d2s writing is ticked on both headlights. From what i have learned is that the oem headlights have D2S bulbs so i wont need any adaptors or anything. Is this correct?

thanks in advance.

You do not need the adapters, just make sure first by disconnecting the hid ballast and try and see if it locks on the low beam of the p53. It should work fine. Sorry about sending the wrong info, the p53 I own is for the h7 bulb only.
