49-DL should be adequate. Friend has one in his wife's 330i and I just put one in my wife's '02 M3.

Battery calculation

If size and Cold Cramping Amps requirements are met...

Quick rule of thumb:
Take the cost of the battery, divide by the number of warranty months. Buy the battery with the lower cost per month that you can afford.

Changing a battery in an X5 is a pain. Too many things to remove to get at the battery, so no sense in repeating this except every 5 years.

I have also used the DL-49 in my BMW, I thought it was the best value available.

Free Warranty Replacement

Most batteries are sold with a warranty for a number of months. A 60-month (5-year) battery has 60 months of warranty, however, part of it is pro-rated.

A two-year free replacement means if the battery is up to two years old, they will replace or refund your battery at 100%. Beyond two-years, the value of the battery is pro-rated: for example 25-36 months, they will provide a 60% purchase price credit, 37-48 months, 40% purchase price credit, etc.

Keep your receipt someplace you can find it.

I am a huge fan of Energizer car batteries. I bought one for my Volvo that treated me right for three years of bitter cold in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Two years after that I sold the car and that battery was still going strong. Needless to say, I have one now in my 4Runner.

I know Pep Boys carries them.
