Cleaned up the hubs n' took some pics

Hi All,

I have an X5 3.0d and a 335d Both suffer from rusty hubs, but the 335d is much worse than the X5. So I eventually got around to sorting out the X5. I used a wire brush, fine (too fine I think) sand paper and some Hammerite Smooth Silver following advice on the E90 Post forum.

This is a picture of the state of the hubs on the 335d (Just over 2 1/2 years old and 28,000 mile)

And finally a picture of my 3 1/2 year old X5 3.0d just because even though it is bog standard (apart from the amp and Xenons) it still looks stunning when it's clean!

Enjoy

OG,
Nice job on the hubs! I did mine a few years ago, and I sprayed a
little clear coat on them; it made them look "good" for awhile,
but they are back to butt ugly now at 7 1/2 yrs.

Cleanazz X, too!

Thanks for the reply, I thought that wouldn't be the end of it. Strange thing is that the X5 hubs were dirty with a bit of rust, the 335d are just rusty and look a real mess.

This is exactly what I need to do. Any tips or things to watch out for? Where did you get the Hammerite?

thanks,

MG

Hammerite from Halfords (UK Store) but most DIY places should have it. Have a look on the E90 Post Forum (UK Site) at this thread Rusty Wheels!! - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum - E90Post.com

It is dirty job and there is a lot of brake dust around so take care. Also I should have spent more time getting the hubs smooth before painting. I used a brush but a spray would give a better finish.

Good luck
