TV/DVD options for the X...what should I do

the kids are growing up and I am looking to get DVD playback for the kids in the X5. I have the following options that I can think of:

1. Retrofit NAV on the X5 (I've done it on an M3, have the supplier and everything), and adding headrest auxiliary screens.

2. Buy the BMW DVD media center, that goes where the cabin light is (flip down)

3. go Aftermarket, and put a screen in the headrests behind the front seats.

what do you guys recommend?

I am going though the exact same dilemma right now. I just sold my Grand Cherokee Overland that had headrest monitors and AVIC-N1. Check it out here http://scarlett.dyndns.org:81/jeep/

1. Retrofit NAV is extremely expensive and time consuming.
2. Looked at the BMW entertainment systems, rather costly for what you get
3. I have the group that worked on my Jeep design a system for the X5. We will be using Visualogic monitors (slight problem truffle brown is not available from vizualogic but should be able to source it) and go with the Alpine DVD changer. The cost may be the same in the end as the BMW system but I know the quality is going to be there and I get a DVD changer instead of the slot load the BMW provides.

I'm not too worried about the retrofit...the money is about $2500, and I will do the install myself. What worries me about this option is how well the Player would be.

I have the Headrest Kit from BMW, all OEM stuff which is nice. It integrates well, you get new headrests and the player mounts nicely in the back. My only problem with it is the video quality, it isn't great. I did like how easy the install was and how you don't have to modify anything, it all integrates and you even get aux inputs. I opted for the option to have the aux input through the stereo as well so now I can hear the movie through the radio or they can use the BMW headsets.

If you only need video in the rear then I would skip the nav retrofit and put monitors into the headrests.
