New Member.. 550i to X5

Hey everyone.. I just sold my 2006 550i because I needed an SUV (or SAV) and have decided that I am going to get an 2004-2005 X5. I am going through a few different scenarios and need some help.

1. Since its going to be an 04-05 it will be out of original warranty (maybe a few months left on the 05) so I need to think about cost of maitnence. I am assuming the 4.4 liter will be more expensive to keep up vs the 3.0, is this accurate?

2. I read through the FAQ on what the CPO covers and it doesnt seem like a lot. I would like to get the CPO but is it really worth it?

3. Is Bluetooth standard on all 2004 and 2005 models?

4. Any advice on the 3.0 vs the 4.4 debate.

I was a member of E60.net when I had my 550i and now that I am getting the X5, Im looking forward to being a member on this site. I appreciate any help and any advice you might have in general. Thanks!

Buy CPO and the warranty concern is somewhat resolved, and yes, I believe its worth it if you can get it for $1k over the comprable private party vehicle. Not to mention BMW is offering 0.9% financing which makes purchasing the vehicle through the dealer more attractive than private party anyway.

I got the 4.4L. Didn't even want to look at the 3.0 even though everything I read says its a great engine.

Thanks for your reply. The CPO i would be looking at only covers "specific components" and not service.. I think this link covers it

http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...formation.html

It seems like there is a lot that they dont cover.. I'm having a hard time figuring out what they do cover

You can, and if I were you I would, negotiate the extended service plan into the deal. Covers up to 100k mi (brake changes, oil changes, etc.)

I don't think bluetooth was standard as my '05 doesn't have it...

Go with the 4.4 --- if you can manage a few grand extra, go with the 4.8is. Both X's are beasts and you'll love either one. I have a 2005 4.4 which came standard with BT.

I don't think that the 3.0-litre six really cuts the mustard in the X5. It's a great engine in a lighter, more aerodynamic vehicle but not in the X. If you must go the six, get a manual, not the auto.
