Burning Oil

So i went on a small road trip this past weekend and when i got to my destination my check engine oil light came on. I went and checked and to my surprise it was a quart low, i also know that i have not been leaking any oil in my driveway nor anywhere else i have been parked.

My question is, has anyone else experienced any oil burning problems with their X's? I almost forgot to say that i have an '01 3.0 with sport package. Any info is appreciated.

thanks in advance

I have about 78K miles on my 3.0 (also an '01 w/ Sport Package) and I've burned maybe a total of 2 quarts of oil in that time frame.

it has only been about 3000 mi since my last service, i was told that i can strech an oil change to 6000 with it running synthetic as it is.

Technically, if you follow BMW's oil change schedule, you can go as far as 15,000 miles or so on an oil change. Getting intermediate oil changes is not a bad idea, though.

How much oil did you have when you started your road trip ?

I change my oil seasonally - Thanksgiving Weekend (snow tires go on too) and usually in March when it's warm enough to work outside comfortably. As far as fluids on the X go....I always top off the coolant during these times and if I'm taking a weekend away in the summer, I check and top off to the *high mark*. In my opinion, and methinks MotorDavid too, ATF is the fluid that tends to disappear in the X.
