Ashtray mod

I got sick of not having the full space of my ashtray to place pens etc and did not want to go through the mod with drilling etc as described here: http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/...tallation.html

So I took a pair of pliers and figured I'd forcefully rip out the cigarette holder from the tray. It worked well and is only held in by a couple of fore and aft tabs. The tray still has the plastic guides in place for the metal part I took out, but there's more room for stuff.

Nice little mini mod, well done. Plus you can change it back to stock when selling

TaMbALoLoNg is an unknown quantity at this point
On the other hand, I think that's one dumb mod. I mean how much room do you need?

Ashtray Removal

How do you get the entire ashtray out of the center console? Your pics show the ashtray completely removed from the center console. How did you do this?

Thanks,

Bryan

Weasel will become famous soon enough
Just push the lid further open than where it stops and it pops the tray up where you can grab it.

I actually bought the rubberized non-smoker's ashtray and I love it

Me too. That's where I installed the DIY Aux jack. Very convenient as I can tuck my MP3 player and retractable cord in there and close the lid.

I did this 'mod' the first week that I had the X5... now my iphone fits in that ashtray perfectly.

For some reason I never thought about taking pictures and sharing with everyone here though... thanks for doing that.
