First time x owner, a few questions
I recently bought my wife a 2003 4.4 x5. We are both very happy with the purchase. Our new vehicle rides amazing, has a great number of convience and safty features, probably more they we will ever use.
I do have a few questions however 1) the car is quick, but what would you do to make it a little quicker with in reason, no turbos/superchargers, more along the lines of a reflash/intake and maybe exhaust, are the power gaines worth the money spent? 2) the power adapter under the glove box is not working. Any ideas on how to fix it? Is there an adapter made to convert the cigarette lighter to a poer supply? 3) Is there a reason the trunk lid takes more then normal amount of force to register as closed and latched? 4) other then the JL audio stealth box and bavarian motor works, who makes a custom sub enclosure? I saw a thread on here about a week ago with dimensions... I might just take those to a car audio shop and have it built(money would be paid to the original poster of course), unless there is a cheaper alternative. Just want to thank you all in advance and say I think I am sold on the X series! I wish I had the money to afford the new X5 M Twin Turbo beast that will be coming out soon.

1. Dinan- I just recently did the CAI, Mass Air Sensor, Throttle body, Engine software and tranny software. Difference yes, more responsive and power seems like its always there with a little throttle at any RPM. I also have the 4.6 but your 4.4 will feel a difference I am sure.
2. Fuse? 3. ? 4. I have the JL stealth sub and it is powered by an Alpine PDX 600 watt amp. Let me just say this thing hits harder than any 10" I have heard. I am sure you would be very satisfied with the performance and the fit is great. Just keep a close watch on ebay or the forum here. I scored mine for $350. Welcome to the Xoutpost. You have a 3rd gen 7 as well nice. I have a turbo 1st gen you can see in my sig. One of the reasons I got the X was to tow my 7. LOL Damn rotary dropping apex seals like its hot.

3) I think it might be because of the stoppers on both sides being pushed out too far. try a quick search I'm sure you'll find the answer.

Hit Redline - thanks for the info. The rx-7 is actually my wifes, but ever since we have had the 7 we have needed a tow vehicle. We just sold the original 7 mover to get the x. We both love it.
The 7 unfortunatly is relativly stock. The z32 however is probably putting down about 450-500 to the ground on low boost at the moment. I want to thank everyone for thier responses, I will check out the fuses and the rubber stoppers tomorrow evening!

#2) Look at fuse #25 in the glove box. It also controls the center console outlet. Mine failed and that was the reason.

leave the motor alone, and save the money for engine repairs.

Yep, dont mod your engine. Stay stock on the engine and save for unexpected repairs. X5 is not a sport car or a fast car. It is an SUV and serve the purpose of hauling more stuff and people. You will be surprised how much you have to spend to fix it in a very short time. Mod other stuff.

how often do things break on it? Just about everything I have read about it say the problems are with the accessories such as windows or other functions.
I have also read that there are a few oil leaks but seem to be easy/cheap fixes relativly speaking. I have heard about the VANOS system issues, but it seems like the labor is more expensive then the parts on that one.
