New Wheels and Tires - BMW dealer takeoffs
I had been looking for some new wheels for my X5 and paid a visit to my dealer to find out what the offset was on a stock X5 wheel. While I was talking to parts the shop forman came in to answer a question the parts guy had. The shop foreman said, "Why don't you just buy some new BMW wheels?" to which I replied that I could not afford them. There were stacks of wheels with tires mounted in the parts room for prices well over 4 grand. The shop foreman told me that he thought there were some X5 takeoffs upstairs and he would check for me. He came back about 5 minutes later and said he was right, there was a brand new set of wheels and tires off an X5 up there and managment will take $800 for them. WITHOUT HESITATING I SAID "SOLD." I got a brand new set of wheels and tires, the tires still have the stickers on the tread for $800! That is cheaper than I can buy a set of new Michelins at Costco! My point is, if you are lookinig for new wheels and/or tires check your dealer, he may have a set they took off when they upgraded the wheels on a new X5. Doesn't hurt to ask! |

Ha! You have to be kidding? I said I bought takeoffs...that means "Stock" wheels and tires that were taken off to put wheels like yours on the car.

Yup! Brand new set of STOCK 18's for our X5 for $800 (that is wheels & tires) and it is exactly what I wanted. I have no need to modify our X5 for performance or looks, we have enjoyed it for almost 100,000 miles so far and plan on another 100,000 exactly the way BMW engineered it.
To each his own, but personally I do not like the oversized wheels on any car...I know it is the current rage, but it leaves me cold. I have 3 Street Rods and an MB SL500 and none of them have the oversized wheel look. I build them for the look I want and you guys do the same...there is no right or wrong, it is only personal preference. My son has a Chrysler 300 Hemi with 22's and loves it...its just not my cup of tea. I still think it was a very good deal, brand new 18's with brand new Michelin tires for less than I would have to pay for a set of new tires at Costco. I was only trying to give a heads up to someone that might want to do the same as I did...I had been checking Craigslist for some STOCK BMW 18" takeoffs and had never considered the dealer. Enjoy your cars, I enjoy mine! |

LOL! Yeah..I thought he meant "knock off's" or what we call replicas..
Crap for $800.00 bucks cant go wrong......i may have pulled the trigger on a deal like that also.....brand new tires.....good deal! Definitley were not 87's in 18" probably some style 69's.... As for the "oversized tires" being the current rage.... I disagree.. BMW has had the staggered set up for quite some time now as a stock set up...... i.e. 4.6/4.8is...etc.. Thoroughly enjoying my X! ,Rich

I hope the tires aren't old, did you check the manufactured date on them?
