New Wheels and Tires - BMW dealer takeoffs
My 2001 X5 is nearing the time it will be needing a new set of tires and the chrome BMW rims that were on it when I purchased the car are looking pretty bad. The chrome was never that great on the wheels and you could see through the chrome from day one. This car had been in the Executive Lease program.
I had been looking for some new wheels for my X5 and paid a visit to my dealer to find out what the offset was on a stock X5 wheel. While I was talking to parts the shop forman came in to answer a question the parts guy had. The shop foreman said, "Why don't you just buy some new BMW wheels?" to which I replied that I could not afford them. There were stacks of wheels with tires mounted in the parts room for prices well over 4 grand.
The shop foreman told me that he thought there were some X5 takeoffs upstairs and he would check for me. He came back about 5 minutes later and said he was right, there was a brand new set of wheels and tires off an X5 up there and managment will take $800 for them. WITHOUT HESITATING I SAID "SOLD."
I got a brand new set of wheels and tires, the tires still have the stickers on the tread for $800! That is cheaper than I can buy a set of new Michelins at Costco!
My point is, if you are lookinig for new wheels and/or tires check your dealer, he may have a set they took off when they upgraded the wheels on a new X5. Doesn't hurt to ask!
