Stupid Question--License plate bolts

Hey I realize this may be a dumb question, but does anybody know the size and thread of the rear license plate bolts? We went to put my wife's tag on her car and somebody had lifted the bolts(previous owner maybe). The local BMW dealer is about 30 minutes away, and I really didn't want to have to drive that far to get tag bolts. If someone knows the size and thread of these please let me know, I will run to O'Reilly's and try to find some.
Thanks in advance

Don't know if E53 are different to E70 bolts but I could not find E70 compatible bolts in any hardware store -- I was looking at regular bolts in addition to all those that were marked for Imports and for American cars. I had to get them from the dealer.

blainesdad,
Are you describing the need for bolts that hold a license tag holder or,
screws/bolts that hold the tag to the car?

Edit: I just dug through my humongous list of nearly worthless
"saved" info I have on one of my 'puters and found a note that
said the rear plate uses M5-.8 (5mm-8), in 12 mm length...
this was probably copped from a post on this Board, and I have
no idea if it is correct or not. I know my local HomeDepot has a
rack in the hardware dept. that lets one "try out" different sizes
and gives you the answer if the screw/bolt fits, fwiw.

See, it's not worthless info since you answered the question!

Very good! Thank you, I just picked some up of that size at a local store. Thanks again!
