Here are the CPO links from BMW NA's site: "covered" and "not covered"...

Not Covered: BMW North America

Hard to know...I would guess yes, it's covered, but your relationship with the
dlr may have considerable effect on the decision.

This device that is only equipped in pre-facelift x5 v8 engine should be very easy to replace DIY, is it? As I can see, just remove the headlight, you can reach it and remove it. Can anyone give any advice on this?

No need to remove the headlight.

There are 3 screws holding the bracket on the car. Take a look at the realoem.com picture to see what i mean.

I would recommend to loosen the fender lining on the passenger side to get access to the third screw and power connector.

Good luck!

I don't think this information is correct. Our 3.0i has a secondary air pump. I believe it's function is to force more air in during startup. I've taken this unit out ........... three bolts. I've also rebuilt it but gutting the thing apart which included drilling out all the rivits and and replacing them with machine nuts and bolts. It was an interesting little project but it took time and you need to have some balls to tear this thing down or you can destroy it.

Out of curiosity, where was the failure when you rebuilt your SAP? I've replaced the SAP on my 330xi three times in total (twice under warranty).

It was the actual fan motor that was dead.

My buddy has a 330ci that he's converted into a race car so I was going to use his as he doesn't need it anymore. But the housing is completely different then in the X5 as well as how it filters the air going into it. So I gutted both as mine was already dead anyways and his would nto work in my X5 as it was.......... motor looked identical......... it was just the top of the housing that was absolutely different in the plumbing connections and filteration. Anyways, it's up and working now......... but I'm still throwing codes I've changed the valve as well so not sure what's going on. Trying to avoid the stealership but looks as if I may be screwed.

As far as causes, I'm wondering if it may have something to do with the filtration of incoming air getting clogged up and the motor burns up due to heat.... ?!?!??!? Who knows. I don't ever remember changing the filter on that unit........... since I've owned the X5 from new. I have to look into that. Wonder if that may be why I'm still throwing codes............... no air getting pumped through.

If the pump is running and the valve is new then you need to check the vacuum line and solenoid.
Some info here in this thread.

I agree, it would be beneficial to the community if people followed up with results. Unfortunately it's a common occurrence that people get it fixed and not post again until the next time they need help.
