problem with Folding mirrors! and minor engine questions

I have a 06' 4.4i X5 with 21,000 miles. i bought 2 months ago with 19,000 and its been fine until yesterday. i came home and routinely parked it, however when i pressed the button on the drivers side door to fold the mirrors, they would fold but almost immediately the left mirror would unfold into normal position and a second later the right mirror would open up again too! the problem kept happening they would fold then unfold every time! please advise me on what i could do or what the problem may be, thank you!
also, because i am somewhat of a novice to the bmw community (i've been trying my best to learn through the forums) i was also wondering, when i drive the x5 and floor the gas, it seems as though the engine would almost stall for a second and it would jerk is this normal? i have a friend who tells me this is a problem with the transmission, that that true? all the while it seems as though the x5 occcasionally is a little sluggish, i saw a post on that a few months earlier, but at the time i was not familiar with the x5 to note any difference, solutions to the problem? thank you so much!

Try a quick search on the folding mirror issue. I'm sure a lot of information will come up.

My mirriors have always behaved in the same manner. I can't get them to stay folded in wiht the power button.

My mirrors always folded in perfectly.... until I accidentally folded the drivers mirror all the way forward while backing a trailer into a crowded driveway through a narrow ass gate. (was too busy looking back to see I wasn't still centered, the gate is only about 2 feet wider than the X5 total)

Now when I fold them in they pop back out. I'm pretty confident I messed up the lever for the position sensor of that mirror, but haven't had time to check position status in the GT1 to confirm before taking it apart to attempt repairing it.

Each of the power folding mirrors has a microswitch to confirm the mirror position. The microswitch has a small metal actuating lever which can detach causing this malfunction. Remove the mirror housing cover (start underneath closest to the door see here) The micro switch is located under another cover beside the motor (follow the blue and white/yellow wires). Check the the microswitch lever is firmly attached and the the switch gives a decisive click when the lever is depressed. Refit the switch and check operation before refitting the mirror housing cover.

Your cars mileage seems too low to have any serious transmission problems.

Had the folding mirrors working for a while and now it has stopped working again - it will fold in and just as quickly fold out . The microswitch is fine. I think it is just bad design as the tolerance for the positioning of the micro switch/metal strip to work is measured in nano-millimeter. I would be keen for someone to confirm that straightening the "U" bit of the metal strip bit by bit and test will help????

Same here. I just don't use it. It is frustrating though. I know the microswitch on mine is in working order. What I don't know is whether bending/straightening the microswitch metal strip will help. Someone? I did have it working for a while but I think the tolerance between working and not working is next to nothing
