There are many of us 3.0 posters here that are quite satisfied with that engine...
I like Sport, but you may not have a need for it on the north NJ labyrinth of roads.

Both cars are decently equipped and CPO'd with time/miles left on the orig warranty;
The V8 is quicker everywhere, but the IL 6 is no slouch. I agree with JCL: in stop
and go, (80% of NJ driving as I remember), the mpg diff is nada.

Your dough, your potential ride, your pick...though I would keep hunting at area
dlrs, or bang a lil' on the price.

I live in the ny/nj area get the 4.4 with sport for 2 reasons 1 you just got rid of a pretty peppy car going to 3.slow is not going to fill that void 2 you said it yourself 3.0 dime a dozen 4.4 better resale an as far a gas mileage in real world my friend has 3.0 an I have a 4.4 we get the same gas mileage both r 05's
