I like to stay in Sport mode though, until I realize how quickly my gas gauge is dropping to empty.

I don't really use manual mode either. Sport drive works pretty well and adapts to aggressive driving. I care more about minimising fuel consumption most of the time anyway so it stays in D.
Call me old-fashioned, but I don't care for paddle shifters on any car. When I test drove a 335i years ago, I didn't touch them. |

i drive in manual mode the majority of the time, dont shift at a particular point. it depends what i'm doing. am i chasin down a babe in a 3 series? or listening to some old rap? i let off the gas when she gets ready to shift and right back on the gas once the next gear engages. if i'm feelin a little edgey i'll wind it out to 5k or so easy. but i always let off the gas and let the next gear catch. im convinced it performs the shift quicker.
i dont limit a particular gear to a particular RPM. i do like keepin her in a gear around the beginning of the peak of the power band. lets say 3k, then gettin the peddle all the way down gradually within in a second or so... with the crossover pipe and intake it sounds like a beast is en route. then like shampoo directions, repete if desired.
