Automatic locking doors...

I have looked in the owners manual and found nothing. Is there a way to shut the automatic locking doors off?? Or even if they unlocked when the vehicle was put in park would be nice. Does anyone have any ideas for comments.

Thanks,
Todder

I believe the auto lock is one of the functions programmed into the key memory. You will have to take it to someone (dealer) that can reprogram your keys/X5. Take a look at the main X5 page under “miscellaneous” and you’ll find a couple of links for key memory programming.

I looked at updating the memory features at one time and found it can be expansive if you have a lot to change because of the man hours. I was told by the dealer that each function had to be reprogrammed by itself, taking 5 to 15 minutes each. At some point I am going to go to another dealer to verify the info from the first dealer.

Auto lock NOT programmed into key but into car memory. Automatic Locking After Starting Off. Thanks TwinsPoppa - Jose

$tealer is BS'ing. Multiple parameters in each category can be set.
Look at the screen shots in the link above for a better understanding of the programming.

This may be true, but it IS key dependent. I have the dealer programmed one key to have auto-locking feature enabled and the other key disabled. The car will auto-lock depending on which key I use.

01 BMW_X5;632994 you are correct, and I did not clarify it is the Car/Key Memory Configuration, I was just using the name used on the link from the main X5 page as a general term as to the problem.

The Key Memory Configuration link on the X5 main page has the following listed as a setting under "Car":

"Relock 2 minutes after unlocking without door opening"
"Vehicle will automatically be relocked two minutes after being inadvertently unlocked once (when doors or trunk were not opened). "

The above does have the X5 as a model that can have this option set.

This is a feature I would never have set, so when I looked into the price of having some options changed I did not ask about this one. When working around a car I tend to keep the keys in the driver’s seat to keep them dry while washing or causing the panic mode to go off while changing the oil. I did this once in on my wife’s CR-v while working under the car (it does relock the doors so I can’t leave the keys in the car). Somehow the remote position itself in my pocket with my knife pressing into the remote on the panic button. I shot out from out the car like a cat sitting under a car when the engine starts. Lesson learned, when changing the oil and under the front of a CR-v, don’t have keys in pocket while you are laying right under an extremely loud noise maker and not expecting the alarm to go off. The CR-v keys now stay well away from me and the car when I am under it.

Well sometime I do that with the X. Hmmmm
did I lock the car? Maybe some of us need the the auto lock
in 2mins after I leave the car thing. Sounds useful to me.
