So...I bought it! $13,600 for a 2001 with 71xxx miles on it. I was first worried about why they would have a car on their lot for so long. My buddy owned a car lot and told me that is unusual. Usually a dealership will send a car to the auction if it on the lot for 60 days. I asked the sales guy and he says this bmw dealership does not wholesale cars, he's afraid someone will steal from him. After running this past my buddy that owned a dealership, he said some dealerships are like that because of that reason, selling cars for a lower price at the auction, then getting paid on the backend.
The sales rep gave me all the service papers to read through including the part when the car was serviced in the past two years while it sat. The "service" that was listed in the carfax report was them at times fixing dents, windows, etc including switching out the battery 2 or 3 times from sitting and never being driven.
I was worried that the car maybe had an electrical problem but i believe that if the car was driven there won't be any problems. It was purchased from this dealership new and before it sat there were never any charging/battery/electrical system issues. So, for a 2001 x5 3.0 with 71,xxxx miles on it, i think i got a steal. What do you think?
