Performance mods What to do?

Thinking about biting the bullet and start doing some performance mods. Figure I'd start with the standard stuff i.e. exhaust, CAI, ECU software. What can i expect in HP gains and what brands are the best?

The reason that so many focus on cosmetic mods is that there are no substantial performance mods available apart from supercharging ($$$).

If you do the CAI, exhaust, and chip all together then there are a few hp to be had, but nothing significant. Separately, there are no gains to be had.

Standard choices are Dinan, AFE, multiple sources of exhausts, and so on.

It would help if you listed your year and model in your profile or post.

Nothing is going to turn your car into a Saleen or anything else. The largest performance gains will be seen by the Supercharger.

With CAI, TB, exhaust, and software you may seen a performance gain in the 15-30HP and 15-30ft/lb area. Every company states different numbers, so the only way to know for certain what your gains are is to dyno it before and after.

Thats pretty much what i figured to hear. I was just wondering if you could actually feel the difference. Its 10k for a supercharger, my 02 4.4 prob only worth 14k these days.

I agree with most here that the HP gains are not going to be outstanding, but I think if you want all out with the CAI, throttle body, exhaust and engine/trans software, there would be a fairly decent difference in acceleration and engine response. It would run you some dough though and at that point the supercharger may look like the better deal.

Does anyone here have all or most of those mods on a 4.4i that can compare it to a 4.6is?

Once my build car is finished I want to do the CAI, TB > Dinan Software and Cattback on my 2k4 X5. Probably cost 3-4 thousand but that should be pretty close to a 4.6 in term of performance.
