SOME QUESTIONS ON MY 2001 X...
Hi members,
I have a few questions about my 2001 X5 4.4i. I’m sorry if the questions are redundant since I haven’t really found a specific answer by searching the forum. A/C Compressor: I have noticed lately that when the car is under normal operating temperature (in Texas normal has a different meaning) and the engine is idling, the compressor cuts off and the air is not as cold. This happens sometimes, very randomly. Also I’ve noticed that my aux. fan doesn’t come on even in 100 F temperatures. Any ideas on what could be wrong? Also how can I check the aux. fan? I checked the fuse and it’s good. Also when the compressor is on, the engine makes a whistling sound. ???? CV Joint The front outer right CV boot is ripped and I believe it’s a while since that has happened. Although it doesn’t make a noise on turns, is it a good idea to change the whole axle (or joint)? Considering the amount of work required to change the boot itself. If so, I see that there is a DIY for changing the boot (http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/suspension/19124-cv-boot-replacement-diy-bmw-x5-e53.html) , is there one posted anywhere for changing the entire joint? I’m worried about the difficulty of detaching the joint from the differential completely. Last question is I found a import part store that sells EMPI CV joint for 120 bucks. Is that a good brand? I appreciate your help in this |

change the final stage resistor for the cooling problem...it is common and the replacement part is an updated version. Axles are cheap now adays since the x is getting old, replace the whole axle since the time is the same to fix or repair. check the other cv boot...probably on its way out

Thanks JST. Would the FSR fix the problem with the compressor that periodically disengages?
also how hard is it to take the whole axle out of the diferential side? I haven't found a instruction on that. |
