Installed my "Free Titanium Gauge Rings" Today!

Thanks JohnD http://www.Xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...uge-rings.html

A rainy day here, so I though I would give it a shot.

Followed the DIY on front page.

Dash comes out easily.

Does not separate easily. I almost gave up. Those + screws are a Mutha.

I persevered, got it done, and like the way it looks. Nice touch.

Thanks again JohnD!

iPhone Pics sorry

They did not twist in a manner that I expected. Lots of twisting and prying.

Went back together easy. Also seemed to fix several dead pixels.

Yeah, it took me a while to get that damn thing apart. You need 2 people (at least I did) to twist everything at the same time. Looks good though, I accidentally got chrome (like other people) before realizing titanium would've been sooo much better. I seem to have screwed up my gear indicator though, because now it's not horizontal, it's noticeably (barely) diagonal. I would go in there and try to see what the problem is but I'm scared I'll make it worse.

Here's the chrome..... I don't know why but it looks so out of place on the X5, definitely go with titanium. At least then it will match your door handles.

I have these for a couple of weeks now and I am scared to install them after reading several posts and DIY for the X5

I installed other ones on the E46 in like 10 minutes ... it is much easier as u can take dash apart by removing 5 trox screws

Skiboats - I'm glad to see the rings went to good use, and that you did this mod yourself verses bringing it to the dealer. The first few times I did this on other carss I was nervous as well. Now I will try taking anything apart once.

As for crome verses titanium - it really depends on the other interior mods. I originally bought these before buying the silver gauge faces. If you have the titanium interior kit - the faces are a must to complete the look. I installed both mods in May, and my 2001 looks like a 2008 now

Yes, me too. I know I mentioned the dealer, but would not really do that.

Just twist and pry. I could not turn them all at the same time and the middle one was easy, then I worked them one at a time, twisting and prying.

Those lever connectors that hold the wiring are pretty slick. That part was a piece of cake.

The majority of my bad pixels are gone too!

Dinan software upgrade next!
