Techron isn't really necessary since you already have Shell's additive package which is the same for all grades of their gas, just like Techron is in all of Chevron/Texaco's grades. There could be a slight decrease in performance with the 87 octane, but no long-term performance issues and certainly no damage.

All Shell grades are considered "Top Tier" and contain additives. You can go to their website and check it out. I copied this for you right off of it;

Shell's Regular, Plus and Shell V-Power® premium-grade gasolines all meet the “TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline” standard.

Their V-Power has more additives than the lower grades (which is actually a contradiction of Top Tier standards which state all grades should have the same amount), but all do meet the "Top Tier" requirements.
