Question Sensor on the gearbox?

I'm soon getting desperate trying to find the reason for all my warning lights trouble. Today I crawled under to check the cable connector at the back of the gearbox. It seemed ok, but nearby I found some kind of cable connection (to a sensor?) that seems to be loose. Does anyone know what this is? Tom

Question Photo (of the missing link?)

Took this photo today. It shows the main connector and the appendix (red arrow) that seems to be loose. Any suggestions to what this is? Tom

that is the classification resistor for the xdrive transfer case. Each electric motor is not created equally. Different variants in manufacturing tolerances require the use of this resistor to ensure correct operation. Disconnecting this will not turn on any lights. It will set a fault in the VTG control unit for classification resistor. open or shorted circuit.

Question Could it be the sinner?

Thanks.
For a year now I have had this problem with brake and 4X warning lights, no odometer registration, transmission failsafe modus, engine fan going crazy because of false overheating signals etc. etc.
After visiting the stealer and resetting the system it all functions normal for some time, but suddenly all the problems are back, usually after a longer drive. One possibility I am hoping for is a bad connection somewhere.
If this resistor is loose and getting shaked and out of position while driving, do you think it might couse the problems mentioned?
Do you know how it is connected to the gearbox?
This shit is extremly annoying, and expencive too

That coded resistor wouldn't cause problems with the speedometer or anything... When you brought it into the dealer, what did they find/reset? Get me the techs story and fault codes from that RO and how long ago it was. It might be a "comeback" on someone that could possibly be covered by the dealer.

The never ending story.....?

The first sign of something going wrong was a continious warning from the parking sensor system although I was driving with plenty clearing to the rest of the world. But this problem only occured once, and did never come back. This happened around 18 months ago.

A month or two later I had the first 4X4 warning. It popped up after a coffee brake under a drive on rugged winter roads, followed me back home, but went away next day.

Then, a month later I had a long trip to Sweden, driving hard on on rugged and icy roads for several hours. The next days I had all kind of warnings coming and going, and the failsafe programs took control and made the car unpleasant to drive.

In february I went to the dealer who read the memory, found errors on all indicators, concluded on a periodic error and something jamming the canbus and reset the memory twice. I don't know for sure what error codes the found, according to the receipt it was the whole total.
Anyway I got the car back with no errors, and was again a happy X5-owner although they took well paid.

In the middle of May I went to Sweden for Service 1 and change of brake pads. 1200 km with pure joyride, and a nice price service compared to Norwegian normal.

But a couple of weeks ago I got it all back I don't trust the dealer to be able to find the problem so I'll do my best to solve the shit myself, with some help from you guys

In that case have you considered buying a laptop GT1 setup? With the lack of dealers to go to in your area of the world I would consider getting one to make proper diagnosis possible yourself. But unfortunately there isn't much of anything you can do yourself without it.

You can PM twinspoppa (Jose) with questions on the laptop GT1 as he has been getting pretty familiar with his.
