22.2 mpg on a 160 miles trip

I did 22.2 mpg average yesterday with my x5 4.4 on the 160 miles trip to the X5 world meeting. I drove mostly around 80/85mph, even went up to 100 when an MDX was tailgating me. I usualy do between 20 and 21 mpg on highways at the best. I do not know what happened yesterday, may be the gas I put in it or may be because the X5 was so happy to go the the X5 meeting

I got 20.4 two weeks ago coming and going to Fort Worth in my 04 4.4. That is better than usual because I drive anywhere from 80 to 95.

The average for my forever and a day (14 hours ) from Chicago gave me 19.5 out of my 4.8.

I am SURE it was because your X5 was so happy! It was great meeting you and seeing your X5.
Take care -

I averaged 18.9 mpg (between 80 and 85 mph) on the entire trip from Atlanta to Charlotte and back...It was about 460 miles...by the way...I did it on one tank.... barely...I filled up about 3 miles from the house and went to the same gas station to re-fill on the way home.

Because I pull a large trailer I am VERY cognizant of head/tail winds which can impact my mileage by as much as 5 to 6 mpg. Without the trailer it still impacts mileage by about 2 to 3 mpg.

Did you happen to notice which way the flags where blowing (I'm always looking for flags to comfirm wind direction/velocity)? I'll bet you had a tail wind of 10+ mph.

That's great mileage, guys!

I don't think I've seen 19 - ever, and I have only seen 18 a couple of times. Oh, by the way, I have the 3.0! Of course, I drive like... well, like me!

Juan
