Locking my X5 w/o setting alarm

My alarm keeps going off randomly. It goes off in the middle of the night and its really starting to piss my neighbors off. I called my dealer and asked if the sensativity can be adjusted. They told me that it can't and its probably the motion sensor in the headliner. They didn't tell me how much it would cost to repair but I'm sure its way more than I want to pay. They told me to just use my key in the door to lock it and that will not set the alarm. I am starting to believe that my local dealer is full of idiots. I tried what they told me and it still beeps when you use the key and my alarm still goes off randomly.

So is there a way to lock my X5 without setting the alarm?

I lock my '01 w/out alarm, all the time...
I press the center lock button on the key,
one time. A 2nd push arms the alarm; one
push only locks the car w/out alarm.

All in the Manual...

Get the hood switch replaced....I just got mine replaced for the same reason. From other threads...they say the part is like $15 and I guess it's a easy DIY...mine was under warranty, so they did it.

my X is set up different , one push locks and alarms , a second push after first push then disables interior and tilt sensor for leaving pets inside or transporting vehicle .
same sequence if using key in lock , turn once for full alarm then turn again to disable interior and tilt sensors .
the hood sensor makes sense because my 7 series alarm sometimes sounded in the wind when the car was in it`s pyjamas for the winter ( wrapped in a cover ) .

I think this varies by year of the X5. On my 2005, one push of the lock button locks and sets the alarm. A second push will turn off the interior motion sensor and the tilt sensor (so a dog locked in the car won't set things off, for example).

All in the manual.....

Thanks for all the info. I just unhooked the hood switch. I guess I will know if that worked at around 4am if it doesn't go off. I took a look at my manual and you're right! Its all in there! I wasn't sure what it was, but it was all there!

Really?? My '01 works the same as the others have stated - one press of center key fob button locks and arms, second press turns off motion sensor.
