3 X5's and an audi

Hey everyone

Came across a 2000 x5 4.4i with a back motor yesterday and bought it...

heres what the guy i bought it from said happen to the engine(chain got loose - when loose the chain broke a piece out of the head / i attached a pic)

i looked for prices on the 2000 x5 engine and it averages at $3000 but a 95-99 740 engine i can get for $1000-1500...

i have in mind maybe this engine is not completely bad....possibly... what usually goes bad when chain goes out of control...

U can't use anything lower than a '99. The '98 motor does not have VANOS and it utilizes a mechanical throttle (yours electronic).

my lil project is a money now a money pit.... wasnt as simplr as i thought.. my mechanic has had to swap so many parts from the old engine...

the chain is shorter on the x5 engine then the 740.. the x5 engine was in alot more worse condition thought.-it had pieces of metal in the pan...
