I have understood that DSC has three modes:

1) Normal DSC ON mode

2) DSC OFF mode (toggle on/off with short press on DSC button)

3) DSC OFF + something else (long press on DSC button)

What is the difference between last two modes in practise? What systems are active and how they affect the offroad riding?

Differing opinions abound. There is not just one version of the BMW awd system. Our 325xi worked differently from my X5, and differently from our X3. Your #1 includes DSC and DTC (stability and traction control on). Your #2 has DSC off, and DTC still on (but with creased tolerances for wheel slip, ie less intervention). Your #3 is DSC and DTC both off, but it appears to be an urban myth for X5s. See this thread:

Ok, thanks.

There sure seems to be various opinions around. Some of them suggest that mode 3 has all other systems off but ADB-X (automatic differential brake).
