Just had my CV Boots replaced
The rear output seals are leaking on the rear differential, so I ordered the seals from Tischer ($30), and the shop will be replacing the seals and flushing the fluid next week, $425. |

I had both CV boots (inner and outer) and the axles replaced for $325... that's with tax included. Had it done at my indy shop. If I paid him cash, it would have been $300 even.

My 01 3.0i has 72,000 miles. Should i get my CV boots replaced? Where in NY are you because $300 sounds like an excellent deal... thank you in advance.

The boots only need to be replaced if they are split or torn. If they are you can replace just the boot if your not getting noise from the joint when turn sharply. They are 20$ or less at NAPA and are made by the company that makes them for BMW. If the joint is noisey ,you can find complete after market axles assembled with inner and outer boots with a liftime warranty fairly resonable. Its not a bad job to change them either.

Do you have to have an alignment after you do a CV boot change??

No, you do not need an alignment. It is only replacing a rubber boot.

No because you only pop the two ball joints off the bottom of the spindle assemby and swing it out of the way. Change the boot or the axle and put it back together. All the adjustable parts stay together and are unchanged.
