emergency repair to cv boot

cv boot burst en route to south of France , i checked and cleaned them a few weeks and 200 miles before trip and all were in perfect condition so i can`t figure why one burst and inner folds are cracked .

i took the x to a village garage close to our holidy home and asked the proprietor to use a tyre repair patch until i could get parts from bmw , he dismissed my suggestion and said he would use rubber compound from a tube so i agreed to repair.
the cv boot had a 5mm hole on the middle outer fold .
after the repair i gently drove the 3 kilometers to the house them checked the boot , only to find a 30mm split where it was previously 5mm ,
i went to a tyre repair depot 20 miles away and asked them to patch boot but they dismissed my request so i bought a needle and thread to stitch the split and a bicycle puncture repair kit to cover the stitches and hold the grease.
after 1000miles of driving on some serious twisty roads and another 1000 miles of autoroute driving at 90mph with 4 people and luggage my repair is still good .
i did order parts to replace boot but it took a week for them to arrive from a bmw dealer only 50 miles from our holidy home so i figured that if i had any problems with replacing the boot then i could be stuck and my patch repair was holding.
