Price for shock/ strut replacement??

After 168K miles, figured it is time to replace my original shocks and struts (I know, should have been done a long time ago). What are you all paying to have this done and where are you having it done??

I just got a quote from my indy mechanic for $3K for OEM shocks and struts, replacing outer CV boots, and an alignment. Does this sound typical??

Ok let greak this thing down...
I replaced mine shocks and struts with bilstein HD ( got them at BMW Parts and BMW Accessories | Bavarian Autosport )
Shocks and struts for $ 650.00 parts only
outer CV boots $130 with labor
an alignment all 4 wheels $200
Total $ 980.00 with out labor for shocks and struts

OEM shocks and struts run some where about $ 1100.00 at morristown BMW

So he is charging you over $2k for labor

Shocks and struts are quoted around $1320, but there is also replacement bump stops, shock and strut mounts, strut bellows, axle nuts, CV boots... $2K in parts and just under $1K in labor.

$3k suspension work for an 01/3.0/168k miles sounds like a lot of money ... I don't think I would spend that kind of money on shock replacement myself... and I think I would go with aftermarket shocks and minimum required work, and keep the money for other maintenance items that surely will come up with that kind of mileage.

I agree. You can get some Bilsteins and they should last much longer and cost less than OEMs.
