Romeo,

There are no major problems with the 3.0 engines. If you are buying a new X5, you are covered under warranty. If you buy a used X5, try to find a CPO vehicle or one with an extended warranty. If you decide to buy a used vehicle without a warranty, the best advice I can give you is to have the seller provide a vehicle service history and have the option to have the vehicle checked out before you purchase.

I can not tell you how many times I have had customers leave crying after I give them a laundry list of problems I find on a vehicle they purchased a week to a month before and then had it checked out.

It is easier to pay a dealer or qualified independent shop 1-2hrs. in labor for a full check and be able to send it back if it has issues. Just my .02

:p I have an idea... Lets do a poll where all the gang here should post their current or old issue they have had with the X5s i mean seriuos problems not light issues and stuff like that. At the end lets see which one comes out with more issues 3.0s or 4.4s .. this way we will find out.. what do u guys think??

I can tell you the results of the poll right now after spending countless hours on 3 different X5 forums. There is no difference in reliability or problems with the 3.0 versus the 4.4, 4.6 or 4.8. If there are any statistically significant differences it would only be because there are more 3.0's versus 4.4's or vice versa therefore there would likely be more incidences or reports of problems. What's more, it would call for a pretty subjective determination of what a serious problem is. Bottom line: There is no notable difference.

The results would not be statistically significant. Too many variables, such as number of 3.0 sold vs 4.4 sold, number of 3.0 board posters vs 4.4 board posters, and number of people who care and those who could give a rat's a$$.
