After doing as much research as possible i ended up getting the guy in the above ebay link to do it. I couldnt be happier, he transferred my old circuit board into a new case, put in a new battery and had the key cut to match my old one for a total of $112aud. I now have a pretty much brand new key for less then a 1/5 of the price that BMW Australia wanted to charge me.
If any of you are in the same boat as me i'd recommend this option. I have the guys direct contact details if you want me to pass them on. Cheers, |

[QUOTE=Tags;650976]Well, i tried the battery replacement DIY but no luck, the remote locking still wont work. I'm trying to look at all my options before i order one through BMW ($580 here in Australia). Apart from going direct through BMW do i have another options?
Bought a new key from BMW here for NZ$425 for my X5. They had to order it from germany. It is lot cheaper than your AUS$580.

My keys have died numerous times. Every time I've popped/cut them open and re-soldered the battery terminals onto the board and EVERY time that has solved the issue. I've never replaced the battery.

That's me, I repair BMW keys
That's my ebay listing. It's good to see that you wrote about your experience for others to share. Thanks’ for that.
For anyone else who is interested, I do BMW key repairs. The repair cost itself if fairly low but I prefer to also replace the key shell as the original shell becomes a bit damaged after cutting it open. Prices vary depending on parts etc. I quote before I do any repair. Most repairs are in the range or $112 - $142 including the new key shell and key cutting. $142 is worse case, if I need to replace the entire circuit board inside. When I replace the circuit board I also transplant the transponder chip over so that the engine will still start. I can also make an entirely new key for $310 and if you order 2 new keys I can offer the 2nd one at half price. The only problem is, you will need to remove the EWS box from your car and post it to me so that I can connect it with my transponder chip programming machine. It's not too hard to remove the EWS box. I can give more details on how to locate and remove it. If you are in Perth WA you can just bring your car to me and I'll do it all while you wait. I have done this many, many times and I still hear people say that it is impossible to make a BMW key that will work and you can only buy one from your BMW dealer for $580 (in Australia). That's obviously not the case. It's just a bit more difficult than your average car key. |

Hi Jack
Do you still do replacement keys? I have a 2007 E70 X5 and need a key reprogrammed. I live in Perth. Thanks Nishan |

That is what I did, then my wife lost it a month later . Good thing I didn't spend $200 on a new one

Yes I do. But only for the diamond head keys. Around 2000-2006. I'm no sure if I can do yours. It depends on the ews version in your car. I can do EWS3 but not EWS4.
